Design & Technologies

Teacher’s subject commentary from Year Book 2015

Design & Technologies (Engineering) has a practical focus. Students use materials including wood, metal and plastic in the design and creation of items and equipment. This involves the development of hand skills and a safety mindset, but also includes the use of technology, such as 3D printers.

Students also cultivate and utilise a wide range of cognitive skills including:

–  Communication using text, technical drawings and images;

–  Numeracy;

–  Critical and creative thinking;

–  Analysis and evaluation; and

–  A systematic approach to problem solving and the process of design.

Most importantly, Design & Technologies is an active subject that students enjoy.
