My path in teaching has taken many interesting turns, starting with Art and English at secondary schools, then Visual Studies at a tertiary institution, Creative Studies at a fashion academy and later Certificate III in English at TAFE. I started my journey with a BA majoring in Art and English and a concurrent Secondary Teaching qualification. This was followed by an Honours degree and many years of teaching before I became interested in getting a better understanding of teaching English to speakers of other languages, which lead me to obtaining a Graduate Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Flinders University, SA.
For the last seven years I have been at Prescott supporting students that speak English as an Additional Language (EALD) and also teaching SACE Essential English. Like most of my students, I am also from another country and share their experience of starting a new life in Australia, which is exciting and at times can be daunting too!
I find teaching at Prescott incredibly rewarding and most of all, I regard being involved through education in students’ development and personal growth as a special privilege.
I enjoy living in Adelaide, which reminds me of Cape Town in South Africa, being blessed easy access to many beautiful walks, the hills and the ocean and hot summers!
