Teacher’s subject commentary from Year Book 2015
Prescott College junior classes have enjoyed a variety of different team sports and fitness training throughout the year. This included: basketball, soccer, European handball and circuit training. Year 8 and Year 9 classes enjoyed swimming lessons at the Adelaide Aquatics Centre, where they learnt water safety and basic stroke technique. New for 2014 was the introduction of the Australian Curriculum content and this gave students the opportunity to learn about mental health, relationships and communication and a variety of adolescent related topics in their health classes.
Our seniors enjoyed challenging practical classes with Year 11 being pushed to their limits with rock climbing, self defence, and circuit training. The theory component for Year 11 explored functional anatomy and skill acquisition. Year 12 students enjoyed 3 days of kayaking at West Lakes, where they learnt stroke techniques, emergency rescues, rolls and concluded the training with a day paddle around West Lakes. Theory and folio components for Year 12 examined exercise physiology, biomechanics and sports psychology.
